An article*, published in international scientific journal PLOS Biology, has created a database of 100,000 top scientists, based on citations of research papers.
Dr Tuan V Nguyen, from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, utilised this data to extract a list of bone researchers.
On the list created of the top 47 most cited bone and osteoporosis researchers, 27% were Australian.
Osteoporosis Australia CEO Greg Lyubomirsky said “this is an impressive result and shows Australian bone researchers have had a big impact and their work is very relevant.”
Greg added “osteoporosis is a chronic disease and we rely on advances in research to improve outcomes for patients.”
